The Community College of Beaver County will host the second annual “The Road to Sustainability II: Implementing Sustainable Strategies,” conference on Thursday, September 23, 2010 from 8:30am-3:00pm, at the CCBC Athletics & Events Center, 1 Campus Drive, Monaca, PA.
CCBC initiated the regional green movement by hosting the first-of-its-kind conference in the Pittsburgh region “The Road to Sustainability”. To capitalize on the momentum created at that first conference, CCBC, in partnership with Sustainable Pittsburgh, developed a green action format that addresses the sustainability issues facing Western Pennsylvania businesses. The 2010 conference advances the green movement to the next level as it aims at providing information to businesses and organizations on what companies will actually need to implement the strategies to be an eco-friendly business as well as courses available to get the current workforce trained in the proper certifications to implement green work compliance. Vendors will display products available to move any business to the energy and sustainable efficiency levels.
The Conference “green expert” presenters will give first-hand information about “how to” implement a sustainable plan, what products to use and how to capture the return on the investment of going green. New construction, renovation, energy audits, funding resources and other avenues are included in this regional event. “Dr. Roy is a very dynamic speaker and is an outspoken proponent for going green,” says, Dr. Matt Mehalik, of Sustainable Pittsburgh, LLC. For over two decades, Dr. Roy has been motivated by society’s aspirations for secure, economic, and environmentally sound energy. He delights in working with the practicalities of effective public policy, the capabilities of new and emerging business, and the opportunity created by technological and institutional innovation. Prior to joining Serious Materials, he co-founded Next Energy, a Sydney-based adviser to government, industry and environmental organizations on energy policy and strategy, often delivering on that advice with operational and project management services.
Formerly Project Director & Fellow at the United States Congress Office of Technology Assessment, Dr. Roy advised the Congress on competition in the electricity market, energy efficiency initiatives in the federal government and housing sectors, vulnerability of electricity systems to terrorism and natural disaster, and nuclear industry issues.
